Curvy model Sarina Nowak in an interview to her new book “Curvy”.
Sarina Nowak was formerly known above all from the successful Pro7 series “Germanys Next Top Model”. Today she lives as an extremely successful curvy model between Hamburg and LA. Her incredible social media success and countless fashion shoots confirm her change from a hunger hook to a woman with more curves, more power and more luck. Now the blonde beauty is publishing a book. We met Sarina in Munich for an interview.
In the book you tell your way, with all its ups and downs. How did you get that and why now?
I thought it was a nice idea to write about my story. My agency Fab4media had the idea, and then talked to the publisher. And then it all came about. Last summer I also met Nils. I really met him a lot. I just think it’s about time and it’s a nice idea.
Who do you want to address with your book?
My book not only contains my background, but is also an advisor. I want to address all women who may be like me to help them to become as self-confident as I am right now. Therefore it was important to Nils and me to put many tips in the book.
What did you take with you from the time the book was written?
It was definitely a very emotional time for me. I am a very private person and it has already cost me a lot of effort. Especially when I was talking about my eating disorder, which I had when I was about 13. And there were also some moments when I read aloud in the book and some tears came down my cheeks. It’s been a lot of upsetting, but I’m glad I can talk about it openly.
In your book you also speak very personally of your family – what do you take most of this cohesion with you?
My family is the most important thing to me in this world. They are always behind me and I am very grateful that I grew up so lovingly. Especially in hard times I can always count on them and they are always there for me. But of course they are happy about all the good things with me and are very proud of me.
Do you ever think about moving back to Germany for your family?
Germany is my home and will always be my home, but in LA I simply have more career opportunities at the moment. But I really come to Germany so often to see my family. But that’s also because I always get homesick very quickly. As soon as I get to LA, I’ll miss her again. This summer they come to visit me for the first time in America. I’m really excited about that. And they finally meet my friend.
Last time we met, you told me about your big dream of being on Sports Illustrated. You are now a little closer to this dream. How did this happen?
I saw the call for open casting via Instagram and simply submitted a video. But I thought that I would never make it this far, because really sooo many videos were posted. The whole thing went on for about a month and I took part quite late. On the last day of the application deadline I was informed that I had made it further. Shortly afterwards we went to New York for the casting. There we were interviewed and had a small shooting. Afterwards the top 15 were selected for the runway show from the own collection and we also had a shooting.
What was the first thing you thought?
I couldn’t believe it. I screamed out loud. We were just in Santa Monica. Of course I immediately told my boyfriend and my family and couldn’t really believe it. It has always been my dream to be part of Sports Illustrated and this opportunity has taken me a big step in the right direction.
What happens now? Are you in further talks with Sports Illustrated?
We’re in contact. The people on site at the casting were really all very nice. I think they’ll just watch me through Instagram as I develop and I hope very much that I’ll be in the magazine sometime.
We found a picture of you with Khloé Kardashian. How did it come to the shooting and how was it to stand in front of the camera with a Kardashian?
Khloé and the Good American Team discovered me on Instagram and then contacted my agency in LA. One week later I already had my first shooting. It all happened very quickly. Khloé is really super sweet and was very down-to-earth and open. It was a lot of fun working with her.
So what happens now?
My goal this year is actually acting. I started teaching a few weeks ago and it’s really a lot of fun. My teacher and agent even said that I might be able to go on first castings soon. And of course I hope that I will also get many great jobs as a model.
