20 years after the assassination of the Italian fashion icon, the fascination for Gianni Versace’s work is as bi gas ever. Today the series ”The Assassination of Gianni Versace“ starts on Sky TV, and on January 30, a brilliant exhibition opens in Berlin. An eclectic material-mix deluxe: choice silk with rough burlap, lace with solid denim and crepe with heavy studs – Versace went beyond any fashion taboos. His speciality: micro-mini, skintight dresses that covered just the necessary. Italian sex-appeal in the mix with baroque elements, eye-catching embellishments and loud colours – that’s Versace. He’s been first to bring jeans to the catwalk. And did you know that his ever first catwalk show took place in the German city of Lippstadt?! Gianni Versace was shot and killed on July 15, 1997, on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion. His sister Donatella is running the business since then.
